On Sunday, 22 March, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, His Grace Bishop Christophoros of Kerasounta, Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Parish of Saint Savvas the New of Kalymnos, in the suburb of Banksia in Sydney, which over the course of the weekend celebrated, by transfer, the feast of its Patron Saint.
His Grace presided at the Matins Service and officiated at the Festal Divine Liturgy, assisted by the Parish Priest, Fr. Sava Pizanias.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, addressing the large number of faithful who participated devoutly in the feast, he first conveyed the paternal blessings and good wishes of their Chief Shepherd, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. He then focused on significant events from the God-loving life of Saint Savvas of Kalymnos and highlighted the gifts he possessed and the spiritual virtues he cultivated.
Concluding his address, His Grace thanked the Parish Priest, Fr. Sava, for the invitation to preside over the feast, offered appropriate wishes to the congregation for the remainder of Holy and Great Lent, and encouraged all to invoke the intercessions of their Patron Saint and to strive to walk in his footsteps.
Fr Savas in turn thanked His Grace for blessing the Parish with his presence giving him a hand painted portrait and asked that he passes on their unwavering love and support to His Eminence Archbishop Makarios.
With a packed Church and Hall, afterwards all were welcome for a free Lental Lunch, in which His Grace Blessed the Table.
