Koliva Workshop at the Parish of Saint Savvas of Kalymnos
On the evening of Friday, 21 August, second- and third-generation members of the Greek community attended a specialised seminar and workshop at the Parish of Saint Savvas the New of Kalymnos in Sydney. There, the Parish Priest, Fr Savas Pizanias, taught them how to prepare sacred Koliva for the departed.
Through this initiative, children and young people descended from second- and third-generation Greek migrants, together with other Orthodox faithful, are learning and preserving the sacred traditions and precious heritage of the Orthodox faith and Greek culture.
The successful organisation of the previous prosphora-making workshop inspired the continuation of this worthwhile initiative, this time through a specialised workshop dedicated to preparing koliva for the departed.
It is worth noting that the Parish of Saint Savvas provides both participation in the workshops and all necessary ingredients free of charge, thereby contributing in a practical way to the preservation and transmission of the Orthodox tradition to younger generations.
