Festal Hierarchical Vespers at the Parish of Saint Savvas the New of Kalymnos in Sydney

On Saturday evening, 21 March, His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia, Chief Secretary of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia, visited the Parish of Saint Savvas the New of Kalymnos, in the suburb of Banksia in Sydney, which was celebrating—by transfer—the feast of its Patron Saint.
His Grace presided over the Feast Day Vespers, concelebrating with the Parish Priest, Fr. Sava Pizanias, and other clergy of the city of Sydney.
At the conclusion of the service, after conveying to the large congregation the blessing and paternal wishes of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, he spoke about the ascetic life of the honoured Saint, the virtues that adorned him, and his spiritual connection with Saint Nektarios. He described the miracles he experienced in Aegina, near Saint Nektarios, whom he served until his repose in 1920, while also highlighting his multifaceted contribution to the island of Kalymnos, where he settled in 1926 and thereafter became a precious support for its inhabitants, assisting them both materially and spiritually.
Concluding, Bishop Christodoulos urged the faithful to take Saint Savvas the New as their model and to strive to imitate his virtues, especially those of profound humility and love for God and neighbour.
